Airport Hotels Near Belfast Castle: My Honest Picks
Let me confess the awkward bit first: none of these hotels is a walk from Belfast Castle, which sits on the slopes of Cave Hill, and I'd rather you heard that from me than found out with a suitcase in your hand. (Twenty-odd years of planning other people's connections, and I still plan everything from the transfer backwards.) So this is a where-to-sleep guide built around two airports, with the castle, Cave Hill and the Titanic Quarter's ship-engineering sights as the days in between. Five bases, each with its trade-off, and trust me, the right one depends on which flight you're catching.

✈️ The Worst Airport Transfer Ever (and How to Skip It)
Belfast has two airports that pull in opposite directions. George Best City Airport is about 5 km from the centre, and the Airport Express 600 reaches Belfast Grand Central Station in about 15 minutes. Belfast International is about 21 km north-west; the Airport Express 300 runs round the clock and takes up to 45 minutes depending on traffic. The question passengers always asked me down the carriage was 'Is this the right station for everything?' Since 2024 the answer is mostly yes, because Grand Central replaced Great Victoria Street station and the Europa Bus Centre. It's a quiet station with no announcements, so watch the screens. Trust me, ask a Translink customer support desk about the day's running, and whether your Belfast Visitor Pass covers the bus (it covers the 600, not the 300). (I once assumed 'near the airport' meant walkable. It did not.)
The Rocks B&B
from £1279.8 Exceptional · 81 reviews
Stay here if your flight uses Belfast International; you trade city nightlife for a quiet B&B and a drive to everything else. It's 9 km from the airport and 15 km from Belfast Castle, so trust me, that's taxi or hire-car territory. Family rooms have private bathrooms, garden views, a work desk and free WiFi, and there's private parking, a sun terrace, a garden, a lounge and bicycle parking. Breakfast is a full English or Irish, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. (I'd never book it for a car-free trip; I learned that the hard way elsewhere.) More on this B&B ->

🏰 Day One: Belfast Castle and Cave Hill, Honestly
I judged Cave Hill by the map and expected an easy stroll. The summit loop takes up to 3 hours, is steep in places and gets muddy after rain (my knees filed a complaint). Belfast Castle, a Scottish-Baronial mansion built in 1867-1870 and given to the city by Lord Shaftesbury in 1934, has a visitor centre, a coffee shop called the Tavern, the Cellar Restaurant and gardens. Waymarked trails climb past the five caves to McArt's Fort and the ridge known as Napoleon's Nose, with views over Belfast Lough to Scotland on clear days. To get there, take a bus along the Antrim Road, then walk up the castle drive. Wear proper shoes.

Hampton By Hilton Belfast City Centre
from £788.6 Fabulous · 6196 reviews
Stay here for the castle and Cave Hill with an easy airport escape; you trade a hillside hush for a bed one minute's walk from Belfast Grand Central. By car it's 16 minutes to Belfast Castle, 15 minutes to George Best City Airport and 40 to Belfast International. Rooms have an en suite, work desk, laptop-sized safe and tea and coffee kit. The hot buffet breakfast is complimentary, and there's a fitness centre, a Lobby Bar, a 24/7 snack bar at reception and parking. (Station-adjacent beds are my weakness, former conductor that I am.) Weighing up where to stay near Belfast Castle? Start here.
🦒 The Zoo Next Door, With the Honest Caveats
Belfast Zoo shares the same hillside, which is exactly why I once tried to cram castle, summit and zoo into one afternoon and finished none of them well. It opened in 1934, covers 55 acres, has more than 100 species and is open every day except 25 and 26 December. The honest caveats for autumn 2026: the Reptile and Amphibian House is closed until early 2027, indoor gorilla viewing is closed (the gorillas can still be seen from outdoor viewpoints), and some walkways have been temporarily closed since 13 October. A Zoomobile helps with the slopes, and the adventurous playground in Cave Hill Country Park is the free alternative for restless children.

⚓ Day Two: Titanic Quarter, Where the Engineering Lives
I came for a museum and left talking about cranes. Titanic Belfast stands on the site where the liner was designed, built and launched. Its four 27-metre 'hull' prows are clad in some 3,000 aluminium shards, and ten galleries run from boomtown Belfast through a dark ride in a recreated shipyard to the launch, fit-out and sinking. Entry is by timed 10-minute slot, so book ahead, and allow about 3 hours. Outside, the free slipways mark where Olympic and Titanic were built side by side under the Arrol Gantry. The Thompson Graving Dock and Pump House is where Titanic was fitted out, and the Harland & Wolff cranes Samson and Goliath dominate the skyline. The old Drawing Offices are now part of the Titanic Hotel.

Titanic Hotel Belfast

Stay here for the shipyard; you trade the city centre, 2 km away, for a bed opposite Titanic Belfast. It's 3 km from George Best City Airport, 600 m from the SSE Arena (now The O2 Belfast) and 1 km from the Thompson Graving Dock and Pump House. Rooms have an Art Deco theme, tea and coffee kit and a hairdryer, and some look over the Titanic Quarter. There are two restaurants, a bar, room service, a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage and parking. (I'm a sucker for luggage storage after too many dragged cases.) Guest reviews: Tripadvisor ↗
🚢 The Boat Bits: SS Nomadic and HMS Caroline
My favourite engineering find was the small one. SS Nomadic, launched on 25 April 1911, was the tender that ferried first- and second-class passengers out to Olympic and Titanic at Cherbourg. She is the last surviving White Star Line vessel, and your Titanic Experience ticket includes her; allow up to an hour. HMS Caroline, a light cruiser completed in 1914, is the last Battle of Jutland survivor still afloat. In autumn 2026 she runs guided tours from Friday to Sunday, showing mess decks, engine rooms and the captain's cabin. Take Glider G2 to the first Catalyst Inc. stop, then walk a little. (I once turned up on the wrong day; check before you go.) The Pump House now holds Titanic Distillers, with tours.

🎤 The Worst Hotel Hunt Ever: Gig and Race Weekends
My worst hotel hunt came on a big event weekend (I'd booked nothing, naturally), and Belfast punishes that. Rooms fill and prices jump for arena concerts, the marathon and Christmas Market season. The O2 Belfast on Queen's Quay, formerly the SSE Arena, holds 11,200 people. Cody Johnson plays on 4 November 2026, Niall Horan's Dinner Party Live is on 15 November 2026, and the Friendship Four ice-hockey weekend runs on 27 and 28 November 2026. Into 2027 come Morgan Jay at Waterfront Hall on 30 March, the Belfast City Marathon on 2 May (Stormont to Ormeau Park, with road closures) and Kingfishr in Ormeau Park on 11 June. Trust me, book the bed before the tickets.
Holiday Inn Express Belfast City By Ihg
from £538.4 Very Good · 4958 reviews
Stay here when the city is full and you arrive by car; you trade the waterfront for the Queen's Quarter, though the waterfront and city centre are within 20 minutes' walk. City Airport is a 10-minute drive, and Belfast Grand Central and the ferry port are 5 minutes by car. Parking and WiFi are free, breakfast is included, and there's a fitness centre, a bar and family rooms. Rooms have a work area and a sofa or easy chair, and Botanic Avenue's restaurants are close. (Free parking at a city hotel still feels like a magic trick to me.) Google Travel listing ↗

🛬 Day Three: The Last Night Before the Flight
A rule from my conductor years: sleep close to the first leg of tomorrow. For George Best City Airport, that means the Airport Express 600 to Belfast Grand Central in about 15 minutes, or Sydenham railway halt, a short walk from the terminal on the Bangor line. Buy tickets on the mLink app, at the machines or contactless on board, and check the day's running with Translink before you set the alarm. (I once cut a connection fine; the station clock won.) The Belfast Visitor Pass covers the 600, and the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre at 8-9 Donegall Square North sells it.
Oyo Rayanne House Guest Accommodation
from £1119.0 Superb · 137 reviews
Stay here if the flight is the point; you trade the city centre for Holywood, 3 km from George Best City Airport, with Titanic Belfast 8 km away and the SSE Arena (now The O2) 7 km. Family rooms have private bathrooms, a work desk, a TV with streaming, a tea and coffee maker, a hairdryer and a kettle. There's free parking, a garden and a lounge, and guests rate it highly for room comfort, cleanliness and location. (Not for anyone wanting a bar downstairs, I'll admit.) Booking.com page ↗
🏨 Which Base Should You Book? My Honest Verdict
If the castle is the point, base yourself near Grand Central and take the bus up the Antrim Road. If the flight is the point, sleep on that airport's side of town. If the shipyard is the point, cross the river to the Titanic Quarter. None of them is perfect, which is rather the charm. Trust me, once you've sat on Cave Hill and watched the lough, you won't want to leave. Prices and availability can change, so confirm when booking.
