The Signal Locker at Historical RFA

At Historical RFA we are committed to recording the history of the RFA, its ships and people, to this end the Website Editors and the Committee of the RFA Historical Society are pleased to offer a messaging service called "The Signal Locker" to all serving and former members of the service, so that anyone who has lost touch with friends they have served with can post their details, and hopefully get back in touch with their former shipmates.

Can anyone tell me when Regent/Resource lost their seaslug rigs and acquired an additional rig stbd side immediately abaft the midship accom block?

Also looking for a source of photos of RFA's beached for scrap at Alang, India or Gadani Beach, Pakistan.

Hi Chris, Hope you are well. An excellent site! One small error I noticed in the Roll of Honour for 1956:-Ian Mar Bodin was Third Officer not Third Engineer Officer. I was sent on Fort Dusquesne from Gib to Cyprus as his replacement.

(Ted Thank you for the correction - Webmaster)

Kind Regards,

Ted Ruckert

Chris,
I have some photos of Plumleaf running up the beach stern first in Taiwan. Do you want them and how will I get them to you. They take so long to send by e-mail.
Last time I saw you was when you were Harbour Master at Millbay.

Regards

Martin

Martin,

Two things, firstly I would really love to have a copy of your image of Plumleaf. If you can have them scanned or scan them yourself the best way is an e-mail attachment to the above e-mail address.

Secondly, I regrettably was never the Harbour Master at Millbay - I came ashore in November 1962 from the Tideflow and have only been back to Millbay when I have caught the ferry to Spain.

I didn't reply to you at once as I have been away from the UK for the past 2 to 3 weeks. You may have seen the medals that were presented to George Joyce in Gibraltar about 3 weeks ago - I was there with George at the presentation and was with him again a couple of days ago.

Yours aye

Chris

Hi Martin,

Sorry its taken me so long to get back to you. I was looking for ships that I had sailed on many moons ago, and unfortunately Plumleaf was not one of them. The Indian/Pakistani beach babies I am looking for are Olmeda, Bacchus, Resource, Engadine, Regent, Olwen and Pearleaf.

I moved from Millbay up to Silloth in Cumbria back in 1990. Thanks very much for responding to my request for info. Unfortunately nothing else has turned up yet.

Regards and Seasons Greetings,

Chris Puxley

Only served 5 years in the RFA (1950-1954), but I'll never forget the good times and opportunities for travel. Served on just two ships -- Wave Conqueror and HMHS Maine. I was the last man aboard the Maine (ex-Italian liner Leonardo da Vinci) before they towed her away to be scrapped in HK Harbour.
Any shipmates out there?

Such a short time in the RFA, but what an impact it had on me and what marvellous memories and half- memories I have.
If anyone remembers me as 'Leckie' on RFA Fort Rosalie '57-'58, with Ch.Eng. Dave leathley; or RFA Olna (Grapple Squadron)at Xmas Island and far-east '58-'59; or RFA Fort Constantine on the Gib.- Malta run '59-'60, it would be great to hear from you!

I have memories of AB Lia who died as a result of an accident on Blue Ranger off Famagusta in 1958. He is burried in limmassol. He is not on the list of those who died in service.

I have fond memories of NG Norman Cowell. I served with him as JEO on Black Ranger. That time we were based in Malta. He died 24 December 1960 on Brown ranger as 4EO
