Queen’s Gallantry Medal

Queen’s Gallantry Medal

Queen’s Gallantry MedalThe Queen’s Gallantry Medal was instituted on the 20 June 1974 to replace the British Empire Medal and other awards within the Order of the British Empire such as the MBE and OBE with oak leaves.

The medal is awarded for "exemplary acts of bravery", and is primarily a civilian medal, although military personnel can receive it for acts not in the face of the enemy. The award of this medal permits the usage of a post-nominal QGM.

The following members of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service have been awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal.

1982 - Chief Officer Christopher Onslow SMITH, R.F.A.
1982 - Chief Petty Officer (Deck) John Thomas OLLEY, R.F.A.
1982 - Chief Engineer Officer Charles Kenneth Arthur ADAMS, R.F.A.
1982 - Third Officer Andrew GUDGEON, R.F.A.
2003 - Leading Hand (Deck) John Anthony FLAXMAN, R.F.A.
