The Naval Tankermen Association was born of a need for mateship and a chance for Tankermen and women to renew old memories and happy times during their Naval service. Also of an important nature is our need to help those of our group in need of assistance whether it be of a medical nature or need for simple comradeship.

Mick McCann's interest in the Great War started when he watched the BBC series in the sixties but never really got around to doing anything about it. Then while visiting my Sister in law in Holland he ended up in Arnhem and visited the cemetery at Oosterbeek which is the final resting place of over 1,600 WW2 Servicemen. He found the cemetery very moving and decided finally get around to visiting the Great War battlefields. Since then visiting cemeteries and looking for the graves of servicemen and women both at home and abroad has become the norm. Over the following years, some like minded friends along with Mick have collected thousands of photographs of British war graves & Family Memorials whilst working as volunteers for the British War Memorial Project. The sad demise of the project has left them with a collection of photographs without a legitimate home. As a few of the team still intend to carry on photographing the cemeteries they visit, he decided a way had to be found to make the images available to others. The British War Graves web site will hopefully be the means to that end.

For over 170 years our aim has been the same, to relieve distress among the seafaring and ex-seafaring community. Thankfully, shipwrecks are fewer but they still occur bringing tragedy in their wake, and then there are those who have left the sea, through accident, ill-health or on retirement and their dependants who are living on meagre incomes and in need of assistance. Please feel free to contact us should you require further information about any aspect of our work.
