|
The Police in the USA reported in July 1954 that seven Chinese members of the crew of RFA Surf Pioneer had jumped ship while she was berthed at Baton Rouge, Louisiana loading oil.

Seven life jackets were also found to be missing. The seven crew members apparently jumped over the side on 22 July 1954 while the watchman was on his rounds – the ship was also being guarded by a private security agency at the time.
Further reports indicated that the crew members may have stolen a small boat and were believed to be drifting down the Mississippi towards New Orleans. |
